Come and ride with Jo Rust on her exciting new motorcycle adventure! Amongst other things, Jo was the first woman to have ever ridden around Africa solo on a motorcycle, so you are in good hands!  It's a chance for you to get on your bike and ride it in the terrain it was designed to be ridden in, Jo will be your guide on this epic adventure and it's open to all adventure motorcycle brands and riders of all skill levels!

Lesotho, is the land of the “blanket people”, who ride their sturdy ponies, build picturesque houses and greet visitors with a dignified salute.  Having arguably some of the best and most scenic riding roads Southern Africa has to offer, we traverse the infamous Sani Pass also known as 'The Dragon's Tail', ride along side Katse Dam and across the Maluti mountains.

Over the four day tour you will get to see some of the most stunning scenery from the saddle of your motorcycle with the peace of mind that every last detail has been taken care of by Jo and SA Adventure, including full support crew, back up 4x4 vehicle, trailer and medic.

Nottingham Road Hotel to Sani Top
124 Kms

Our adventure starts at Nottingham Road Hotel where we will meet and stay over for the first night.

Built as a trading post in the 19th century, this relaxed hotel boasts large, modern rooms and garden cottages along with restaurant and traditional pub (one of the oldest in Kwazulu-Natal). The hotel also has it's own resident ghost, Charlotte, who is famed to have killed herself because of a broken heart, after her lover left her. Oh how painful love can be.

Situated on the Midlands Meander, this is one of our favourite stop-overs.

We will all meet at the hotel and enjoy a hearty dinner before starting off and heading for Sani Mountain Lodge the next morning. We will head towards Himeville via a gorgeous dirt road with magnificent views and easy riding. Just before Himeville we will turn off towards Sani Mountain Lodge and ride up the famed Sani Pass!

Also known as the 'Dragon's Tail', Sani Pass is one of the most famed dirt road passes in South Africa. Riding up the pass will ensure you some magnificent views. The pass has loads of areas where you can stop to take photos and once at the top, it's obligatory to celebrate by enjoying a local Maluti beer in the Highest Pub in Africa! This is one of Jo's favourite places and their restaurant serves the most hearty and delicious food.

Sani Top to Katse Lodge

We leave Sani Mountain Lodge after a hearty breakfast and enjoy the magnificent new tar road, thanks to our Chinese friends, for the first 40-odd kilometres of our day.

We then turn onto the Thaba-Tseka road and will spend most of the rest of the day on dirt roads heading to Katse Lodge. We will refuel in Thaba-Tseka.

Rocky ascents and descents with the odd water crossing are the order of the day. Jo will stop at certain obstacles to give the group a briefing on how best to tackle the obstacle.

Remember, if at any stage you feel uncomfortable with an obstacle, talk to Jo and she'll help you through. We're all here to have fun and learn.

Oxbow Lodge to Clarens

109 Kms

All good things must come to an end and today is the last day of our Lesotho Adventure. We'll have a lazy breakfast at Oxbow Lodge and then start heading towards Clarens where we will end off with lunch.

First we'll stop off at the Liphofung Caves that have been used since prehistoric times and more recently by King Moshoeshoe the Great as a place to stay whilst visiting the area.

We'll cross the border back into South Africa at Calendonspoort. It takes no longer than 15 minutes to stamp out of Lesotho and back into South Africa. We will then head towards Clarens via the picturesque R711 between Fouriesburg and Clarens.

We'll end off our tour at the Artist's Café in Clarens with lunch. Lunch is not obligatory and you are free to return home whichever way suits you best.

Katse Lodge to Oxbow Lodge

147 Kms

Day 3 sees us heading to Oxbow Lodge via the Kao Mine road. After breakfast we head out on a beautiful twisty tar road hugging Katse Dam until Ha-Lejone, where we will refuel. This is not an ordinary re-fuel point as you will notice, as fuel is brought to us in 5 liter plastic containers. Not to worry, we've refuelled here many times without any issues.

After filling up we'll stop off at Motebong Lodge for a little something to eat. Their French fries are highly recommended!

Once done with our early lunch we'll get back onto the road and tackle the dirt roads leading past Kao Mine and over Kowl Summit, the highest navigable road in South Africa. There's nothing too serious to be expected. A few steep up hills and down hills with some loose rocks here and there. Nothing worse than you will have done already.

We're in for some spectacular views once again, so please make sure to stop and take photos whenever you like.
